I have been inspired this morning through my spiritual teacher and his kind loving words. This here is my attempt at doing the same, as best I can with my limited understanding.
The world today, as i’m sure those of you who regularly watch the news are aware, is full of darkness and inharmony. We find ourselves in this modern, advanced civilisation surrounded by war, famine, poverty, injustice, corruption and darkness. Where did it go wrong?
Many souls are attempting to reform the current situation. Doing their best with what they have to remedy the circumstances the world is in. What these great beings would advise us to do is our own small part in our daily lives.
I will share the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi here to better relay what I am trying to say:
“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
There is a severe shortage of light in the face of this darkness. It is easy to go with the current and react to negativity with negativity, to hatred with hatred, to injury with injury. Many people believe this is the only way to react to such things. I strongly disagree!
St. Francis gives us the perfect remedy for what we can do in our daily lives as we go about our business encountering all manner of people living life. When we encounter hatred, let us respond to it with love. When we come in contact with someone who is full of doubt, we can try our best to fill them with faith. A family member who is sad for whatever reason will need nothing more than a turn of events by being given the gift of joy.
It is easy to add to what this world has in abundance, after all this is what has brought us to where we find ourselves. It is more difficult to go against the current and show that there is an alternative. Light can only be seen in the presence of darkness, so what better stage than the world today. Shine bright and do what you will.
